For Zulu Alpha Kilo, the difference between a good idea and a great one often comes down to making something tangible. In an industry where brands routinely promise innovation, authenticity and purpose, the agency has built its reputation on finding ways to demonstrate those qualities rather than simply talk about them.
That philosophy helped earn ZAK Bronze in both Agency of the Year and Digital Agency of the Year in 2026. With offices in Toronto, Vancouver and New York, the independent agency has been strengthening its creative, production and media capabilities while expanding its roster with clients including Hershey Canada, the BC Cancer Foundation and Women’s College Hospital Foundation.
“It’s always been important to show what makes a brand unique,” says CCO Jenny Glover. “But in today’s media-saturated world, saying you’re innovative or have a rich heritage isn’t enough. You have to make it real.”
Making that happen requires creative thinking and production expertise to work together from the outset. ZAK’s in-house studio, Zulubot, and media arm, Zulumatic, help connect ideas with the platforms and experiences that bring them to life.
The agency has also been building leadership across its three offices, adding executive creative directors Jordan Hamer and Spencer Ryan, while strengthening its New York team. Despite the geographic spread, president and CEO Mike Sutton says the agency operates as one connected system rather than separate regional businesses.
That approach is evident in its work. For President’s Choice, ZAK brought five distinct businesses together under “Possible Lives Here,” creating a coordinated production that yielded 187 pieces of content. For Henry of Pelham, it transformed the winery’s heritage into limited-edition bottles featuring photographs developed using its own wine. And for Destination BC, it created “The Nature Rating,” an AI-powered tool revealing how much nature appears in films, books, music and television.
The executions differ, but each turns an abstract proposition into something audiences can experience.
As ZAK experiments with new technologies and formats, founder and creative chairman Zak Mroueh believes the essential judgment remains human.
“Being different isn’t enough,” says Mroueh. “A strategy can sound compelling on paper without inspiring good creative. A terrific creative idea can fail to solve the business problem. You know you’ve struck gold when the two come together, and ideas start flowing across multiple executions.”
